If your child is anxious about going to bed or has a recurrent fear that makes it hard for them to settle to sleep independently, try to avoid talking about this during the bedtime routine or just before they go to bed, as this will only bring it to the forefront of their minds and reawaken their anxiety at a critical time before sleep. Instead, introduce 'talking time' earlier in the afternoon, where the TV is off and toys are away, so that you can give them that special one-to-one time and talk about how they are feeling and allay their fears.
Take your baby out for a walk every afternoon in the buggy or sling, as exposure to the light and fresh air will help regulate their body clock and encourage good nighttime sleep.
