Chronic poor sleep is linked to a range of life-threatening conditions including heart disease, stroke and cancer. Researchers from UCL and the University of Sydney have recently found that following WHO and NHS guidelines to go for a brisk walk for two-and-a-half hours a week, which is just 20 minutes a day, could prevent an early death caused by a lack of sleep.
If your child is anxious about going to bed or has a recurrent fear that makes it hard for them to settle to sleep independently, try to avoid talking about this during the bedtime routine or just before they go to bed, as this will only bring it to the forefront of their minds and reawaken their anxiety at a critical time before sleep. Instead, introduce 'talking time' earlier in the afternoon/early evening, where the TV is off and toys are away, so that you can give them that special one-to-one time to connect, explore how they are feeling and allay their fears.
2-3% of 1-3 year olds in the UK have confirmed Cow’s Milk Allergy (CMA). The UK currently has the highest prevalence of CMA in Europe.
